    Where is the good entertainment?

I love Aruba and it really pains me to say this, but the entertainment that I have seen at the various hotels, bars and casinos has largely ranged from marginal to pretty awful. Is it a matter of the hotels and bars just going with the cheapest option or hiring friends and family, knowing that the tourists are going to come anyway? Having someone play a guitar, saxophone or keyboards and sing badly along with pre-recorded tracks seems to be the norm far too frequently.

I know there are some talented people on the island, people that are capable of much better performances. Who are they and where/how can I find them when I'm there?

i have heard the complaint often

the show at the crystal showroom closed a long time ago, the show at the royal cabana even longer ago (prior to the royal cabana closing)

there is that magic act (or is it gone? ) at the westin, but i will refrain comment on that show.

i have heard some great bands/music at lacabana pool bar and at the renaissance ocean suites pool deck.

have you visited the piano bar up at palm beach?

there is little or no shows on the island and that is really unfortunate.

sizzles or zizzles (?) up on palm beach had a dinner show that did not last for more than a few months.

could it just be that not enough people are interested to make evening entertainment not wanted/needed?
    i have no answer.

I would settle for a couple of good musicians instead of what you usually find

Just my opinion of course, but after spending all day on the beach or in the water I think many people don't have the energy for a show. Although maybe my age is showing.

At cubas cookin they put on a great show for dinner if you like latin music. They also have dancers that dress up in colorful cuban clothes and perform a show to the music of the house band...Makes you feel like you're in cuba. Well I'm going by the movies. :>)

It's an enjoyable show while you're eating dinner. There's also music to dance to.

Wow.... I don't know how many times I've discussed this with the musicians, activities directors, and fellow tourists on the island.
The truth is, if you were to go off, way off the resorts, you would find music in the smaller more local places.
Pretty much the same on a lot of the islands, or so I'm led to believe.

The entertainment on the island is a pretty small pool of regularly working musicians who have a really good thing going...
regular gig, regular pay, and pretty much a new audience every week... that's a dream come true to most musicians.
At any rate, I have to figure that after a while the musicians get a little laissez faire about the gig and the quality drops....
like over the last five or so years.

Maybe they need an injection, but of what? All the bands seem pretty happy doing what they're doing.
I know I sure would be...

My sources tell me there's a club downtown, across from the bus station, called The Local Store.
Real musicians, not necessarily playing for the tourists, if you know what I mean.
I've not checked the place out yet considering I just found out about it, but the source is a well-known local musician/radio dj who wouldn't steer me wrong.
If you go and check out the club, give us a report...

Ahh, seven weeks til paradise... better warm up the travel guitar.

I agree not too much going on at night. This July with be our 11th year and I feel the same, I wish there was a better night life. We did discover last year that we went to the Cigar Bar across from El Gaucho on a Saturday night and there are many locals there with live music. But this doesn't start up until 11:00 or so. We also had an awesome time last year in Soprano's piano bar. There was an entertainer there that covered a lot of music from 80's and 90's. He was very funny. I hope he is there this year when we go back. Other than that I haven't found much excitement in 10 years.

Funny but now that the subject has come up.....we really don't go out much, not because we are too tired like pegmeister suggested, but,of course we really are too tired......but the truth of the matter is...there really isn't a "fun" place to go to hang out and dance or even just sit around and listen to some good music.
There are some places, but....confessions is very loud and plays some crazy a%$ music that I am too old to tolerate...the old mambo jambo's played good latino music but there were so many people doing really good dancing that I was too embarrassed to do anything but watch...Senor Frogs, well do not really think I need to say anything more....we used to hang out on the beach in front of what was Jimmy's old beachbar and listen to the locals play, they were just a bunch of friends that would play together most nights but they haven't done that in many a year, sad to say.....o well....we need someone to drum up some local band business and get them playing !!!!!

Bugaloe Beach bar on the pier in front of the Radisson has live music on Tuesdays and I think Fridays? You can check out their facebook page to see exactly. Last Tuesday the band was good. They played everything from classic rock to Maroon 5. People were dancing and it was great. We also saw a band at Moomba Friday night called Equator - they played good cover songs too.

The best trip is the next trip. Anxiously waiting to book something.
